Your journey to Odyssey Boutique Hotel begins in Costa Rica, accessible by plane or car. Depending on your travel plans, here are three options for getting here:
If you prefer a seamless experience, our VIP Tours and Activities host can arrange transportation through our trusted partner, Rioja Rent-a-Car. They will greet you at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San José and chauffeur you to San Isidro del General on a scenic 3-hour drive. From there, you can continue driving yourself, following the provided directions, or, if you prefer a full chauffeur service for the entire trip instead of driving from San Isidro del General, there will be a reasonable supplementary charge for this service.
Alternatively, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can navigate the route yourself using apps like “Waze” or “Google Maps” on your smartphone. Once you arrive at Scala Restaurant in Escaleras, your host will guide you the rest of the way to Odyssey Boutique Hotel, leading as you follow behind. We highly recommend a four-wheel drive for this part of the journey.
Coastal Route: The coastal route offers smoother road conditions and takes approximately 3 1/2 hours to reach Scala Restaurant in Escaleras.
– From San José, take Route 27 and follow the signs toward Orotina for 54 km. At Orotina’s toll booth, watch for signs indicating the turnoff to your right onto Route 34 toward Jacó, Parrita, and Quepos. This part of the journey from San José to Quepos will take about 2.5 hours.
– Once in Quepos, follow the signs to Dominical Beach for 43 km, a drive that takes approximately 45 minutes. You’ll pass the police checkpoint and the Baru River bridge. Continue driving south for about 10 minutes (approximately 9 km) until you see the entrance to Escaleras on the left, marked by our sign among others.
– Continue up the road for 5 minutes, and you will see Scala Restaurant on your left, where our host awaits with a refreshing welcome drink. From there, your host will lead you to Odyssey Boutique Hotel (about a 10-minute drive), guiding you as you follow behind. We highly recommend a four-wheel drive for this part of the journey, as the road up to Scala and toward Odyssey is well-maintained but graveled.
Mountain Route: Travel through the mountains via the Pan-American Highway toward Cartago for a scenic drive to San Isidro del General, and from there, you continue toward Dominical. This route takes approximately 4 hours to reach Scala Restaurant in Escaleras.
From San José, take the Pan-American Highway toward Cartago, leading you to San Isidro del General. This segment typically takes around 3 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions, covering approximately 120 km.
From San Isidro del General, you’ll drive toward Dominical, a journey of about 45 minutes, covering around 37 km.
Once you reach the end of the road, turn left toward Dominical, passing the police checkpoint and Baru River bridge. Continue driving south for approximately 10 minutes (about 9 km) until you see the entrance to Escaleras on the left, marked by our sign among others.
Continue up for a 5-minute drive, and you will see Scala Restaurant on your left, where our host awaits you with a refreshing welcome drink before leading the way to Odyssey Boutique Hotel (about a 10-minute drive) where your host will be waiting for you. The road up to Scala and toward Odyssey is all graveled and in very good condition.
If you prefer a full chauffeur service for the entire trip instead of driving from San Isidro del General, there will be a reasonable supplementary charge for this service.
Drive Yourself and Experience the Adventure
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can embark on a Costa Rica adventure by driving yourself. Experience the thrill of navigating the country’s scenic roads and immerse yourself in its natural beauty. Discover hidden gems, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant culture along the way. With the flexibility to stop whenever you desire, driving yourself offers a truly authentic Costa Rican experience.
Flying is another convenient option. The fastest route is to fly into Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) and then catch a short flight to Quepos regional airport (around 20 minutes) with Sansa or Costa Rica Green Airways. From Quepos, our VIP Tours and Activities host can arrange either a chauffeur service or a rental car, and it's just a 45-minute drive to Scala Restaurant in Escaleras, where our host will greet you with a refreshing welcome drink.
